According to the Prime Minister’s press service, Castex learned Monday afternoon that his 11-year-old daughter had tested positive for the virus. “So, he immediately ran a PCR test, which was also positive,” Matignon said.
Castex traveled to Brussels on Monday morning, where he met his Belgian counterpart Alexandre de Croo. Other members of the French government have also traveled to Belgium, including Florence Parly, Minister of Defense, Gerald Darmanin, Minister of the Interior, Eric Dupond-Moretti, Minister of Justice and Clément Bonn, Minister of State for Europe.
Shortly after the positive Castex test result was announced, Belgian Prime Minister Alexandre de Croo announced the quarantine. Brussels said four other members of the Belgian government, who also attended the meeting with the French delegation, “will undergo a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test and will be placed in quarantine until the test result is negative.”
Castex, 56, received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine in the spring. So far, he has never tested positive for the coronavirus.
