A new bond for new times. Producer Barbara Broccoli talks about casting as 007
Producer Barbara Broccoli says we need a James Bond Reinvented for the next chapter. She added that the producers have a long way to go as the modernization of the franchise has not yet begun.
Broccoli believes that the new version of the adventures of Agent 007 should reflect the changes that have occurred in the world since 2006, when Daniel Craig assumed this role. The producer noted that James Bond has been updated several times over the decades.
I’ll go back to “GoldenEye” when everyone said, “The Cold War is over, the Berlin Wall is down, Bond is dead, we don’t need Bond anymore, the world is at peace and there are no more villains. Oh my God, they were wrong!” She said this in an interview published on the website of The Guardian magazine on Saturday
When Daniel Craig took over the role of James Bond from Pierce Brosnan, the producers wanted to focus on what a 21st century hero should look like.
Daniel gave us the opportunity to delve into the characters’ love lives… and the world was ready for it. I feel that these films reflect the time in which they were made, and that the producers have a very long way to go to reinvent them for the next chapter.
Firstly, will we meet a James Bond antagonist?
Last year, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Barbara Broccoli talked about the casting process for the new James Bond. Looks like we’ll get to know his opponent first.
We always sit down with our writers and start thinking, “What is the world afraid of? First, we think about who the Bond villain is going to be. We try to focus on that as a kind of overarching story.” Only then do we also want to look at Bond’s love life, what he will have to face personally, and what he has yet to come to terms with. So he will have to face two big problems: one geopolitical and the other personal – I explained.
