A semi-trailer was accidentally lifted with a container falling several meters onto the reloading yard of the Baltic Hub terminal.
The container that was incorrectly separated from the trailer was lifted by the port crane along with the vehicle. The group fell several meters and was destroyed, but fortunately no one was hurt.
This dangerous situation occurred at the Baltic Hub Container Terminal in Gdańsk on Friday 8 December morning.
The recording we obtained shows a crane in operation. The film begins with the crane operator actually lifting the container into the air. However, the load is still attached to the trailer with which it arrived at the unloading site. (to update: One of the readers of Trojmiasto.pl tells in a comment that the container was loaded onto the trailer, and was not collected from it)
Either one of the container’s latches has malfunctioned or is unlocked incorrectly.
As a result, the trailer rises into the air. It is not known why the crane operator did not lower the load at this point.
– What a crazy person, what a fool. He saw that he was not separated! – The voice of one of the employees can be heard in the recording.
After several seconds, the hook is released and the trailer falls several meters to the ground.
The semi-trailer was destroyed, and the trailer was likely damaged as well. According to our information, fortunately no one was hurt.
The station operator prepares a statement on this matter
We have asked the Baltic Hub container terminal operator for comment. We heard that a statement is being prepared in this regard. Once we receive it, it will be published.
