Now the player has also decided to comment on the matter, whose official statement was published on the club’s social media sites.
Below is the full text of Michaela Cowling’s statement:
Last Wednesday, as I was entering the women’s restroom at a music club, I was attacked by the club’s security guard inside. Despite repeated assurances from me and others that I was where I was supposed to be, after I kept my place in line, he began to become extremely physically abusive.
It was the most extreme case of hatred I have ever witnessed.
I wanted to take this time to talk about how hate and targeted violence against Black women from the LGBTQ community still exists and should not be tolerated anywhere in the world, yet we are all aware of it.
However, I would like to thank my family and close friends for instilling and affirming the immunity I have built in myself over the years.
The love I’ve received over the past few days has been more significant than I could have ever imagined; Surely love trumps all hate.
I will stay in Poland and despite this abominable act, I intend to continue playing for the team I came here for. On my behalf, I would like to thank my agent, my teammates and the VBW Arka Gdynia club for their support and actions for justice.
This is my only statement and now I want to focus on my health and get back into the team.
With love, Michaela

– Played in different countries. She came straight from New Zealand, where she played in the summer league. In her professional life, she had never encountered such behavior and such a threat to her life. The beating that followed could have ended tragically. These are hits to the head, club president Boguslaw Witkowski said in an interview with Przegląd Sportowy Onet.
