On Wednesday, Hubert Hurkacz qualified for the quarter-finals after defeating German Jan-Lennard Struff 6:1, 6:4. This was his first victory over Struff, currently ranked 27th. He had previously suffered two defeats: this year in the semi-finals of the tournament in Stuttgart.

On Thursday, the Wroclaw native met his next opponent. It’s Talon Grixpoor. The Dutch tennis player defeated Australian Alex de Minaur 6-4, 6-3 in the second round match on Thursday. The match between the Dutchman and the Australian was close, in the first set only in the end Grikspor was able to break his opponent and win 6: 4. De Minaur started the second game better, winning the first game on the serve of a lower ranked opponent, taking a 2-0 lead. However, the Dutch tennis player won the next five matches and advanced to the quarterfinals without any major problems.
This will be the third duel between Hurkacz and Greksbauer between these tennis players this year. They both recorded one victory each.
In Basel, the Pole is fighting not only for the title, but also for the maximum possible number of ranking points, which will allow him to maintain the chance of advancing to the season-ending Masters Championship. The best eight players of the season will play at the ATP Finals in Turin, with Hurkacz currently ranked 10th in the rankings.
