Fresh started the Australian Grand Slam with a tough match against hosts representative Daria Saville. After three hours and 13 minutes, she won 6:7 (5-7), 6:3, 7:5, marking her first win in the main part of the Australian Open.

The 26-year-old from Lodz, who recorded the best spell of her career at the end of last season, which saw her rise to the highest level yet (63 places) in the world rankings in November last year, will have a tough task ahead on the Tour. The Frenchwoman, who is four years older than her, does not have the best memories of confrontations with Polish tennis players. The Frenchwoman won 6-4, 7-6 (7-2), and was particularly impressive thanks to her powerful serve.
