‘Avengers: Kang Dynasty’ loses its director. “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” creator Destin Daniel Cretton will not be behind the camera for the Marvel Studios superproduction. “Kang Dynasty” is planned to be the culmination of the last few years of the MCU. How should the manager’s departure be explained?

‘Avengers: Kang Dynasty’ without Destin Daniel Cretton

“Avengers: Kang Dynasty” (planned premiere: May 2026) was supposed to be the equivalent of “Avengers: Infinity Wars.” The show was set to culminate the final few phases of the MCU, which in turn would have led to an even bigger climax, the equivalent of “Endgame” – i.e. “Avengers: Secret Wars” (premiering a year later, in May 2027). But while “Infinity War” and “Endgame” were being filmed simultaneously by the Russo brothers, Destin Daniel Cretton is only set to work on “Kang Dynasty,” and it has not yet been announced who will take the helm of “Secret Wars.”

But Cretton did not sever his ties with the studio. The director is still working on the “Wonder Man” series, despite recent rumors that the project has been cancelled.
In light of the end of the actors’ strike, the crew plans to return to the set after Thanksgiving. The star of the production is Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.

Cretton is also expected to direct the “Shang Chi” sequel.

In addition to “Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” Cretton’s filmography includes the drama “Storage Room 12” with Brie Larson and Keith Stanfield. He also worked on the series “American Born Chinese.”

“Loki” – Trailer for Season 2

Will Kang return or will he disappear forever?

It is possible that the change in director’s position is due to the fact that Marvel changed the concept of the show. “Kang’s Dynasty” was supposed to be Kang’s elevation to the role of a villain who threatens the entire universe, someone like Thanos. In light of the domestic violence allegations against Jonathan Majors (who plays Kang), the studio may have changed its plans.

In May, information emerged that “Kang Dynasty” also lost screenwriter Jeff Loveness. At the moment, there is neither a director nor a screenwriter (at least officially).

Is there a possibility that the film will never be made? The Loki season 2 finale – in which Kang played a large role – is suitably ambiguous: Marvel can use the new status quo to further promote Kang – or sweep him under the rug. However, this is just speculation at the moment. Time will tell what lies ahead for the MCU.
