Bayern did not recover. Manchester City will play in the Champions League semi-finals

In the first half of the match, the hosts posed a threat in front of the visitors’ goal several times. But each time, “Die Roten” lacked efficiency in finishing. It was close, and from the 17th minute Thomas Tuchel’s team doubled. Dayot Upamecano fouled Erling Haaland as he entered the field. Referee Clement Turpin gave the Bayern defender a red card. However, after consulting the VAR, he overturned his decision because the City striker was in an offside position.

Bayern were on the verge of taking the lead at half-time in stoppage time, but Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Kingsley Coman missed their chances. The match remained goalless until the end of the first half.

City made it 1-0 in the 57th minute. Kevin De Bruyne played in for Haaland’s rush towards the goal. The Citizens’ scorer took advantage of Upamecano’s slip and went head-to-head with Yann Sommer, who confidently converted it into a goal.

Then it became clear that the fate of the home-and-away match had been decided. In the 76th minute, Mathis Tal scored a goal, but the referee saw offside. Five minutes later, the French referee awarded a penalty kick to Bayern. Sadio Mane’s cross was cut in by Manuel Akanji with his hand. Joshua Kimmich fired home from 11 metres.
