More than 800 people work at the Bielsko-Biala plant. The company’s management announced that it intends to lay off about 300 of them, including 290 people from production.

Wanda Stróżyk confirmed that there had not been such large layoffs in the group’s companies for 10 years. “We start the talks on Saturday. We will analyze not only the scope of the layoffs, but also the employer’s proposals in terms of restructuring, including the job protection package presented to us,” said the union leader.

On Tuesday, the daily Rzeczpospolita reported on the plans of Stellantis, which announced mass layoffs at the plant in Bielsko-Biała. “Some employees from Bielsko-Biała will be given the opportunity to move to the Stellantis plant in Tychy or Gliwice, where the Fiat 500 and Jeep Avenger are built among others,” the daily reported.

The newspaper pointed out that the factory was operating well three or four years ago. It produces, among other things, the engines that are equipped with the new Jeep Renegade. “The current situation is the result of changes affecting the entire automotive industry in Europe. The French and Italian-American automaker Stellantis, founded in 2021, will switch production to fully hybrid and electric drives by 2030, and will also reduce the number of platforms within The whole group, this directly leads to the closure of production lines, entire factories, and mass layoffs.
