American actor Brad Pitt suffers from a specific disorder, prosopagnosia.
The 58-year-old admitted this during an interview with GQ magazine a few days ago.
This neurological disease is also known as “face blindness”.
Sufferers fail to recognize faces, sometimes even familiar faces.
The comedian, who has not been officially diagnosed, says the disorder often causes him social problems.
He explained that he couldn’t remember people he met at parties in particular, and that he appeared to many people to be full of himself or stupid.
Brad Pitt has admitted that he tries to remember people he meets without success, which he feels embarrassed about.
“Nobody believed me when I told them. I would love to meet someone with this disease! ” he said during his interview.
What is prosopagnosia?
This rare neurological disorder affects 2 to 2.5% of the world’s population.
It appears at an early age and lasts throughout life. This is called congenital prosopagnosia.
There is also progressive prosopagnosia, which develops over time, often due to a neurotransmission problem.
Finally, people who have had a stroke, concussion, or brain tumor may suffer from “acquired” prosopagnosia.
In a 2019 study published by BMC Psychology, a woman told German psychologists that it “never occurred to her” that she could recognize people by their faces.
