President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky submitted to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine a draft law on the release of soldiers conscripted into the reserve after the end of their military service during martial law.
The draft law, bearing No. 11035, was published on the parliament's website, and MP Oleksiy Honcharenko provided information about its registration via Telegram.
The draft stipulates that conscript soldiers whose service period has ended during martial law and whose military service has been extended beyond the specified dates will be released to the reserve on the dates specified by the decree of the President of Ukraine. Everything will depend on Zelensky's decree.
On November 24, 2023, the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Oleksiy Danilov, announced after a meeting of the Supreme Staff that conscript soldiers whose service terms had already expired would be demobilized in the near future. Danilov also informed that soldiers whose conscription service period has ended but want to remain in service can do so by signing a contract.
The bill proposed by President Zelensky means that soldiers who have completed their service can finally return home, even during war. It is worth emphasizing that many soldiers have been fighting for two years without a single rest. At the same time, the draft law leaves room for those who, for various reasons, wish to continue serving, and gives them the opportunity to sign the contract. This initiative could be an important step towards strengthening public confidence in state institutions, demonstrating that the government cares not only about the effective defense of the country, but also about the well-being of its citizens serving in the military.
