According to the New York Post, scientists from China linked to the military created a new mutant strain of the GX/2017 coronavirus and tested it on laboratory mice that had been specially prepared for this purpose, i.e. humanized. Their brains have been modified to reflect a genetic makeup similar to that of humans.
The results were shocking because the mutant GX-P2V strain was shown to cause 100% mortality in mice. cases. All infected individuals died within eight days, as the virus attacked their lungs, bones, eyes, bronchial tubes, and brains.
According to the New York Post, it was a brain infection that led to the animals' death. Furthermore, in the days before death, the mice lost weight and became sluggish. The day before they died, their eyes turned white.
“This highlights the risk of GX_P2V spreading to humans and provides a unique model for understanding the pathogenic mechanisms of viruses associated with SARS-CoV-2,” wrote the authors of the study, published in early January 2024.
Western experts criticized the research of scientists from China
Francois Balloux, an epidemiologist at the Institute of Genetics in London, said that the tests conducted on mice were terrible and made no scientific sense at all. He also expressed concern that the Chinese research may have been conducted without any biological containment, which could lead to another pandemic.
“This is a terrible study, and it makes absolutely no sense scientifically. I don't see anything interesting to be learned from forcibly infecting an alien strain of humanized mice with a random virus. Conversely, I can imagine how things like this could go wrong.” …” – he wrote on X/Twitter.
Ballou is not the only Western expert to condemn the Chinese research. The New York Post quoted retired Stanford University medical professor Dr. Gennady Glinsky as saying: “This madness must be stopped before it is too late.”
