LIV’s decision to join the Tour and leave the PGA has destroyed many relationships in the world of professional golf, and the relationships of Bryson DeCambeau and Tiger Woods are no exception.
DeCambeau, one of the PGA’s biggest stars, was on hand last June when he signed a Saudi-sponsored deal valued at more than $125 million.
His decision, like that of dozens of golfers who followed him, was received very coldly by the sportsmen most loyal to the PGA.
The Californian assured that even though he was single, he was still in touch with several former colleagues, including Jordan Spieth and Will Zalatoris.
DeChambeau, however, laughed at reporters in Winter Garden, Florida, and said they could “guess” who was no longer talking to him.
“I am not going to betray anyone. “He’s a great friend of mine,” he said of Woods, according to USA Today. I wished him a happy birthday. It’s like that. He has his own view of things.
“We have the opportunity to grow the sport and hopefully one day it will understand our vision.”
Besides, D’Chambeau hasn’t missed a PGA since joining the LIV circuit.
“I don’t regret anything. I loved the fans and the people who came to cheer me on. But slowly we’ve started to attract crowds. People understand our model and like the concept of teams. From what I’ve seen, things are moving in the right direction.”
DeChambeau won the 2020 U.S. Open and seven other PGA Tour titles before accepting the Saudi jackpot.
