The latest PlayStation game isn’t particularly popular on Steam. Concord has been steadily losing players despite its debut last week.
Concord is the latest game as a service created by Firewalk Studios under the watchful eye of PlayStation, but the developers, who have been working on the project for 8 years, have been hit hard by reality since its first appearance. The idea is to involve as much of the community as possible, thanks to which it will be possible to develop the shooter even further.
Concord debuted on PS5 and PC at the same time, because Sony, in the games-as-a-service category, does not intend to release exclusive titles on PlayStation 5 first, however, things do not look good, because the shooter had a disastrous start on Valve’s platform.
At its peak, only 697 players were checking out the site on Steam at the same time. Over the past two days, there have been hours when around 100 platform users are playing on the servers, while yesterday the already low number dropped to 86 players.
According to VG Insights analysis Concord on Steam was expected to be purchased by 8,400 to 17,700 customers, so assuming every one of them chose the $40 version, revenue would have been only $708,000.
There is also a more expensive version on sale, which would generate over $1 million in revenue for Concord. However, given the circumstances (all of the players mentioned would have to buy the more expensive version), these estimates seem unlikely.
The situation with Concord is funny because the number of people who watched the game recently (8738 viewers) is more than the number of people who played it on Steam (697 concurrent players) – this shows that Sony spent a lot of money on promotion. Popular streamers are trying to encourage fans to participate in the production for several days, but as you can see, it has had little effect.
