The plans for CES 2022 also include a presentation of updated graphics cards based on the RDNA 2 architecture. Here, the biggest change will be the move to 6nm lithography, which will translate into lower power consumption, also with active AMD SmartShift functionality. Meanwhile, information about the new laptop Dell Alienware m17 R5, which will use new solutions, has penetrated the network. In addition, the first pictures of Rembrandt’s wizard appeared.

The first images of the AMD Rembrandt processor appeared on the Web. According to preliminary calculations, the area of ​​u200bu200bthe entire system is about 208 mm². By comparison, the Cezanne APU has a footprint of 180 square millimeters. In addition, we learned the first details about the Dell Alienware m17 R5 laptop, using Rembrandt processors and a Radeon RX 6850M XT card, with it being the most powerful laptop in the AMD Advantage Program.

The Dell Alienware m17 R5 will be one of the first gaming laptops to use both AMD Rembrandt processors as well as updated AMD RDNA 2 graphics chips. The AMD Ryzen 9 6980HX processor is octa-core, 16-threaded. We would like to remind you that it will be the only chip of the new generation of APU, in which the Turbo Clock will be able to reach a maximum of 5.0 GHz. There will also be a Radeon 680M integrated graphics system with 12 CU blocks. In addition, the Dell Alienware m17 R5 will be equipped with a Radeon RX 6850M XT card, which will be an updated version of the Radeon RX 6800M. The card will receive, among others, 12 GB of GDDR6 memory, 96 MB Infinity Cache, and SmartShift support.

As the first details of the new Alienware m17 R5 have been revealed, the first images of the AMD Rembrandt processor have surfaced on the web. Although the image is not of the best quality, it allows you to check the surface area of ​​the new layout. According to preliminary calculations, the area of ​​u200bu200bthe Rembrandt APU will be about 206-208 mm². For comparison, the Renoir APU has an area of ​​156 mm², while that of the Cezanne – 180 mm². Rembrandt’s larger size, despite the move to 6nm lithography, correlates with the use of an entirely new and more comprehensive graphics chip, based on the RDNA 2 architecture. The fifth generation of Rembrandt APUs will be officially presented on Tuesday, January 4.

We also got acquainted with the approximate architecture of the AMD Rembrandt processor. It confirms the use of up to 8 Zen 3+ cores and an all-new graphics chip with WGP blocks, based on the RDNA 2 architecture. The diagram also shows the use of the DDR5 memory controller and PCIe 4.0 interface. In addition, we can see that the Rembrandt APU also has a controller that supports USB 4 port. This is a big change compared to the previous APUs, which introduced support for USB 3.2 Type C Gen.2 at 40 Gb / s. AMD Rembrandt processor should provide a maximum of 20 PCIe 4.0 slots, 8 of which will be used for dedicated graphics cards, and the remaining 12 will be partitioned with a maximum of 3 PCIe 4.0 x4 NVMe SSDs.
