Designer Thierry Mugler has died at the age of 73

French designer Thierry Mugler, who ruled fashionably in the 1980s, delighted international stars with his spectacular outfits, died of a “natural death” at the age of 73 on Sunday, his press secretary told AFP.

“We are deeply saddened to inform you of the death of Mr. Manfred Theory Mugler that occurred on Sunday, January 23, 2022,” it said in a statement posted on the author’s official Facebook account. “May his soul rest in peace.”

According to his press officer Jean-Baptiste Rougeot, the death of the great Courier, now known as Manfred Thierry Mugler, occurred unexpectedly on Sunday afternoon. He said he still had plans and would announce new collaborations earlier this week.

Born in Strasbourg in December 1948, Thierry Mugler came to Paris at the age of 20, then created his own label “Caf de Paris” in 1973, and founded Theory Mughler a year later.

Its structured and sophisticated portraits quickly imposed themselves. The Mugler woman, with pronounced shoulders, shoulder necklines and corset waist, has toured around the world from Jerry Hall to Kim Kardashian.

A director at heart, he has made an impact since the 1970s, becoming a pioneer in massive glass parades.

She then went on to create perfumes, which were a huge success until her first female model, the “Angel”, which was introduced in 1992, topped the charts with the legendary N ° 5 of the channel.

In 1985, French fashion minister Jacques Long’s fashion collections marked the political world, as did the signature Mugler on his Mao-collar dress, which was whistled at the National Assembly for wearing without a tie.

Thierry Mugler retired from fashion in 2002, but today’s pop culture icons like Lady Gaga, Beyonc,, Cardi B and Kim Kardashian still wear her archive on special occasions.

So in September 2021, at the opening ceremony of the exhibition “Theory Mugler, Godourism” at the Museum of Fine Arts in Paris, American rapper Cardi B posed with red sequins in spectacular costumes with feathers on his side.

“Mugler wanted to get away from an elite-compliant hot coach, and wanted to show young people that hot clothes can be worn and that it can be anything other than a chic evening attire,” Time announced. AFP Theory-Maxim Loriat, Exhibition Supervisor, was originally produced by the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.

In the latest photos on her Facebook account, you can see Kim Kardashian in a metallic costume and cowboy hat designed for Halloween by the designer.

In 2013 and 2014, the couturier wanted to “shake up” the art of journalism by introducing “Mugler Follies” in a Parisian theater, which was transformed into a cabaret.

Single dancers, ventriloquists, singers, photo singers, acrobats, from Philiform to Podero model: he has long wanted to set up a magazine: “The joy of an independent art, life and exchange, without a message, everything is possible there.” He told the AFP at the time.

“I didn’t really miss fashion,” he explained.

“I do a lot more now: architecture, design, setting up a magazine, staging … when I was a designer the daily stage was provided to clients. Now it’s a story, a story, shows, pictures …”
