Irony of fate is sometimes a truly wonderful phenomenon. Fans “Partner” We’ve been waiting for information about a new Green Ogre movie for years, and the latest news came out on the same day we learned of the Green Ogre’s passing. Jersey Storewho played the famous donkey character. Not many of us can imagine anyone else in the role, but it turns out that Storr wasn’t the first choice for Polish distribution.
The latest Shrek-centric film will hit theaters in 2026, but in the Polish dubbed version we will no longer hear from Jerzy Stuhr, who has forever been associated with this production and the chatty Donkey character. At this point, it is still too early to say who will replace the actor in this role, but it will be a difficult change for many fans. Many suggest that Jerzy Stuhr’s son Maciej will take up the baton. Others are counting on the rapid development of artificial intelligence technology, which would allow the use of the actor’s voice samples and their adaptation to the new cartoon.
But as it turns out, Jerzy Storr wasn’t the first choice for the role of the donkey in the Polish distribution. We can find the first trailer for “Shrek” online, which uses completely different voice actors.
In the 2001 film version that audiences loved, we heard Zbigniew Zamachowski (Shrek), Jerzy Storr (Donkey), Agnieszka Konicowska (Fiona), Adam Furness (Lord Farquaad) and Tomasz Bednarek (Kiastek). But before the production even hit theaters, in the first trailers, we heard, among others: Jarosław Boberek as Shrek, Wojciech Paszkowski as Donkey, and Fiona voiced by Izabela Dąbrowska. Why this change?
Of course, it’s not just about insufficient dubbing skills. Often, trailers for new productions are released long before the film’s premiere, and casting for roles is still ongoing during this period.
We’ll have to wait a long time for final information about the upcoming production. The premiere of the latest film in the “Shrek” series has been announced for July 1, 2026.
