Illegal copying and distribution of video games is a nightmare for almost every studio that creates them. To protect themselves from “piracy”, creators use various safeguards to prevent this practice. However, during all these years there have been people whose approach to this topic has been completely different. One of them is the studio Black Tabby Games, which created the very original game Slay The Princess.

Slay the Princess is one of the best rated games of 2023. The creators of this production are so confident in its uniqueness and originality that they would rather the player play a bootleg copy and try the game themselves than watch someone else's gameplay on YouTube.

A similar situation has occurred several times over the years. However, it is worth noting several products whose creators decided to take similar steps, namely making their games available on torrent sites. These included Darkwood, Trials 2: Second Edition, and Dark and Darker. But this time, the studio behind Slay the Princess is publicly admitting that “If money is an issue for us, we should download the “pirated” version and buy a legal copy only when we like the game and have the funds for it“. Black Tabby Games' approach is somewhat understandable, after all, their production stands out from others, and it is the personal experience of the game that allows immersion in the game world and, at the same time, its better reception (compared to watching someone else's gameplay).
