The amending Act on Support for Electricity, Gas and Heat Consumers, the starting point of which was the parliamentary bill introduced by KO and members of the Polish Parliament 2050-TD, assumes the extension of the maximum electricity prices for households until June 30, 2024 at a price of PLN 412 per MWh net to the current level. Local governments, public utilities, small and medium-sized enterprises and farmers must pay the same maximum price. The electricity price cap also applies to municipal companies that manage sports facilities, such as gyms or swimming pools.
The law maintains the current solutions regarding setting gas and heat prices for the first half of 2024. The protection allowances stipulated in another law for the year 2024 are 50%. Current amounts, because these solutions are valid for six months. In addition, Shield Allowance amounts in 2024 will be linked to the 2022 inflation rate.
The funding source was referred to as the Covid-19 Fund, which will be financed from the gas write-off that goes to the 2022 Spread Payment Fund and other funds. The law stipulates that the gas write-off must be transferred to the fund retroactively to 2022.
The law enters into force on December 31, 2023.
