EU sanctions against Putin and Lavrov approved

Information about the addition of Putin and Lavrov to the list was provided on Friday after the meeting of the foreign ministers of EU member states, the EU representative for security affairs, Josep Borrell. The decision was made to freeze the assets of Putin and Lavrov.

Talks about imposing restrictions on the Russian president and minister took place on Thursday and Friday nights. The vast majority of EU leaders voted in favor of imposing sanctions on politicians.

“We accepted the conclusion that we will strike with sanctions against everyone who plays an important economic role in supporting the Putin regime,” Borrell said.

As he said, EU diplomacy hopes that sanctions will increase Russia’s inflation, undermine its industrial base and reduce foreign investment.

– Borrell added: – Russia’s exclusion from the Swift system may be adopted in the coming days, depending on Russia’s behavior.

EU sanctions against Russia

The Heads of State and Government of the European Union organized an extraordinary summit in Brussels on Thursday related to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. EU leaders agreed on sanctions It aims to impose “serious and dangerous consequences” on Moscow.

“These sanctions cover the financial sector, the energy and transport sectors, dual-use goods, as well as export control and export financing, visa policy, additional lists of people from Russia and the new listing criteria,” the European Council concluded.

The statement said that “Russia bears full responsibility for this act of aggression and any harm it may cause” and that Moscow “will be held accountable for its actions.”

The Council of Europe also calls for the urgent preparation and adoption of another package of individual and economic sanctions that will also cover Belarus, from which Russian tanks invaded Ukraine.

Russia suspended as a member of the Council of Europe

The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe decided in Strasbourg, on Friday, to suspend the Russian Federation’s membership in the Council of Europe.

Poland and Ukraine asked to suspend Russia’s membership. Poland is trying hard to get a decisive response from the Council of Europe to Russia’s aggressive and totally unacceptable actions and welcomes today’s decision.
