Piao Zeroni’s team is with the Czech Republic, Albania, the Faroe Islands and Moldova in Group E of the preliminary round of the European Championships to be held in Germany in 2024. It turns out that fate, in theory at least, is very kind to them. None of their competitors will play in this year’s World Championships in Qatar, which Czeslaw Mitchnowitz’s team is preparing for.

Albania, for example, which was in the third basket, has not won a match this year. The Faroe Islands, pulled from the fourth basket, take 122nd place in the FIFA rankings, while Moldova takes fifth place – only 174.
Satisfaction is not hidden, among other things, the president of the Polish Football Association Cesare Kuleza. “We have a very good draw for the qualifying groups for the European Championship. We will be the favorites of Group E – promotion from first place is our goal. We respect our competitors, but everyone is within our reach and I hope to prove it close!” – The president of the union wrote on Twitter.
Fifty-three teams will compete in the Euro 2024 qualifiers, divided into ten groups – seven with five teams and three with six. Germany, as the host nation of the final tournament, will not participate in the qualifying rounds. Russia will not play either, excluded from all UEFA competitions due to the invasion of Ukraine.
The best two teams from each of the ten groups will advance to the final tournament (June 14 – July 14, 2024). The other three finalists will be selected through play-off matches from among the best teams in the League of Nations that have not won the promotion.
There were certain restrictions at the time of withdrawal. The first entrants to the fourth final of the League of Nations – Croatia, Spain, the Netherlands and Italy were drawn into AD groups (five teams), so as not to play qualifying matches during the final tournament (14-18 June).
For political reasons, Armenia with Azerbaijan, Ukraine with Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina with Kosovo, Serbia with Kosovo and Gibraltar with Spain cannot be included in one group. Climate factors have also been taken into account (a maximum of two teams in the group are from “winter” countries where matches can be played in difficult conditions) and long trips are reduced.
