Few expected the Europa League semi-final rematch to be so exciting. In Leverkusen, Roma compensated for its loss in the first match. In the end, Bayer scored two goals and entered the final match (2:2).

The Europa League final seemed within reach of the new German champion. Bayer, unbeaten for almost a year, won away to Roma 2-0 in the first match.

In Leverkusen, Roma tried to attack at first, but the locals quickly organized the game from the back and were able to strike a powerful blow in the 16th minute. Exequiel Palacios then played the “stick” with his partner and after a while shot it powerfully from a distance of about 16 metres. The goalkeeper instinctively hit the ball.

Five minutes later, Nikola Zalewski appeared on the pitch for Roma, and the new German champions launched a determined attack.

The Romans can only owe the fact that they did not concede a single goal to the brilliant performance by Mael Svilar. The goalkeeper performed brilliantly after shots from Adam Hlozek (25th minute) and Jeremy Frimpong (32nd minute). Three minutes earlier, after Palacios’ shot, Svillara hit the post. In the 39th minute, the goalkeeper blocked Amin Adly’s shot and then Hlozek’s shot.

Watch the video: Kwiatkowski speaks harshly about the Santos team. “The players didn’t know what he meant.”

For locals, the goal seemed to be just a matter of time. Meanwhile, Roma unexpectedly opened the scoring. In the 42nd minute, Jonathan Tah committed a foul on Sardar Azmoun inside the penalty area, and Leandro Paredes confidently took advantage of the penalty kick.

After the break, Bayer tried to make up for the losses. However, Mile Svilar was unbeatable. The goalkeeper won a one-on-one confrontation with Jonas Hoffmann (59). Five minutes before that, Amin Adly shot a ball from a long distance that passed the goal.

Roma tried to respond, and in the 64th minute they were awarded the second penalty kick of the match. Only after VAR analysis did the referee decide that Hlozek’s handball was illegal. Paredes once again used “eleven” flawlessly.

Baer attacked. The hosts needed a goal to advance. However, Leverkusen was still unlucky. This is what happened in the 74th minute when El Adly possessed the ball inside the penalty area. The shot went far from the post!

The local team scored eight minutes before the end of regular time. In strange circumstances. After receiving a cross from a corner kick, Svilar scored an empty pass. The ball bounced off surprise Gianluca Mancini and fell into the goal.

The Romans had to attack to take the game to overtime. However, Bayer could have equalized when Frimpong’s shot from the penalty area in the 87th minute was rebounded by Svilar. The same player missed a one-on-one opportunity with the goalkeeper two minutes later.

In a tense end, Bayer did not allow Roma to score any goals. The hosts saved the tie in the seventh minute of stoppage time. Josip Stanisic tricked his opponent inside the penalty area and scored the equalizer with a shot from seven metres. Leverkusen, still undefeated, has reached the Europa League final!
