To Israel, in the European Conference League’s Group Stage fourth-round match, Lech Poznan is somewhat heading off with his soul on his shoulder. Although in the first match with Hapoel Beersheba “Kolejorz” he had an advantage, he could lose, because the hosts created two perfect opportunities. In addition, Shabi Suleymanov, the former representative of the Russian youth team and the best competitive player, returns to the team from Israel, Which was not accepted in Poland because of the Russian attack on Ukraine.
With Ramzi Al-Saffouri injured (still unable to play), Hapoel was effectively deprived of firepower in Poznan. But the problem is that a Lich has almost all of his power, and he doesn’t have that firepower either. Poznan has scored only two goals in the last four matches. Achievements in Ekstraklasa (13 goals in 12 matches) are disastrous. Especially when we consider the players that John van dem Brom has at his disposal. You get the impression that Lech has no idea how to use the potential.
Let’s start with the simplest statistic: goals scored. For Maciej Skorża the ratio is 1.95 goals per match, and for John van den Brom, who has been advertised as a very aggressive coach, it is 1.48 goals per match. In six of the last twelve matches, that is, since the end of the crisis, Lech could not score more than one goal. Let’s see the average goals scored by Van den Broom in previous clubs: Apeldoorn – 1.79, Den Haag – 2.15, Vitesse – 1.59, Anderlecht – 2.03, Alkmaar – 1.97, Utrecht – 1.97, Genk – 2.08. It is also why, at some point in 2016, he was seen as a strong candidate for Ajax Amsterdam. There has been no top-level coach in the Polish League Ekstraklasa yet. The position and offensive midfield of “Kolejorz” are even more surprising.
Today, the Poznan club wins a great organization in the back. We’re not comparing the average here, because while it’s very useful for Scoroa, van den Brum found major problems for staff at the back early in his career. Philip Bednarek has surely had a bit of work for some time. Besides, of course, this also in difficult moments equals the task. Bednarek this season in the league already has six clean slips. All this in the last seven games. In addition, many of his brilliant tackles made Leitch ever play in the group stage of the Cup. Up front, Lech is saved by the individual quality of the players. Michał Czerś and Mikhael Ishak can always do something out of nothing, and similarly – despite their still poor form – Afonso Sousa or Joao Amaral. But these are revolutions.
Remarkably, fewer opportunities have been created than under Maciej Skorża. According to ekstrastats.pl, last season Lech gave 17.35 shots per game, of which 6.41 were on goal. Now there are 15.67 and 5.22 rounds, respectively. And if we take into account only the last seven games, that is, after the big crisis at the beginning of the season, it will be 15.71 and 6.00, respectively. So it is still less. Of course, Skorża had Jakob Kamiński and Dawid Kownacki at his disposal, but van den Broom couldn’t complain. Mishaw Leather is a revealer of the season, Christopher Felde has moments, Skorża hasn’t been in, and today he has the most shots (six, including four on goal) in a team in the Conference League. Joao Amaral is still in the squad, but the Dutchman hasn’t made it to him yet.
In the conference league, Lech created 42 chances for himself, an average of 14 per game, and fired 13 shots on target, just over four per game. Not much, but still a lot more than Hapoel Beersheba, who – when it comes to attacking – is the worst team in the competition.
As for Lech, there is definitely a problem with Michael Isaac. In theory, everything looks fine, three games, three goals, two passes. But in recent matches, Isaac has shown less and less. Not even radiumakWhere I got to the edge. In the match with Legia in Ekstraklasa or in the first match with Hapoel, he was cut from the game. It is also worth noting that Isaac had a total of four shots in the Conference League, three of which were for the goal. The efficacy is impressive, but we also see that it doesn’t happen very often. It is the same in the league. This season, the number of goals decreased twice. On the other hand, Isaac retreats more, fights from behind, which also translates to the situations he creates, there are about 50 percent of them. More than last season.
Let’s go back to Amaral. The Portuguese, who was the best player in Ekstraklasa next to Ivi Lopez, completely “faded” from the statistics of the attack. Fans are waiting for it to break, but that doesn’t happen. There were moments, but when comparing season to season, Amaral scored a goal or assist every 199.5 minutes on average, in the previous season it was less than 97 minutes. This translates to the effectiveness of the entire team.
It is difficult to expect from Van den Broom that he will find overnight a recipe for the Polish champions’ attack problem, specifically for the match against Hapoel Beersheba, but in the long term this is essential. Thursday meeting starts at 21. You can read the report at Przegląd Sportowy and Onet.pl.

Nevertheless, a well-deserved youth coach and teacher can still be found in the stands of the stadium in Gdynia – he comes to the matches and his friends tell him what is happening on the field.
