— The oil in the exhaust fan hydraulic system caught fire. The captain said. Michel Dale. He informed that according to procedures, several fire extinguishing units were sent to the area of Jaworzno Power Station, but in the end not all of them were needed to extinguish the fire. For safety reasons, the 910 MW unit has been temporarily shut down.
“A fire broke out in the 910 MW unit in Jaworzno and was extinguished. The oil in the hydraulic system of the exhaust fan caught fire. The incident was quickly brought under control. No casualties were reported. The scene of the accident was secured by fire brigades. The unit was closed for reasons Safety related,” reads Tauron’s profile on the X platform (formerly Twitter).
The 910 MW unit was launched with a delay in November 2020. A few months later it was shut down due to faults. It was restarted – also with a delay – at the end of April 2022. It was then temporarily closed twice more.
Torun has been in a months-long dispute with Rafako, which built a power unit in Jaworzno worth more than PLN 6 billion. The contractor claimed that the defects resulted from insufficient quality of coal supplied to the unit. Ultimately, the settlement was signed in March 2023.
In March 2024, the company announced that the 910 MW unit had passed all acceptance tests and was ready for commercial operation without restrictions.
