Miners from closed mines in Silesia can now undergo training that will allow them to work as wind turbine technicians or service technicians. This new career is an opportunity to get a stable job with an attractive salary.
– The retraining program directed at miners not only helps solve the problem of the current shortage of qualified employees faced by wind farm operators, but also constitutes an important step towards the development of employees in the wind industry in Poland. Initiatives of this kind also help build awareness of the career paths offered by onshore and offshore wind energy, says Katarzyna Czapiewska, senior consultant at Hays Polish.
The industry has just begun.
Krzysztof Nadolski, energy sector advisor on the Board of Directors at HRK, points out this The industry will only gain wind in its sails.– In the coming years, we will face an investment gap in the implementation of wind projects. This is clearly derived from the law on investments in wind farms that was introduced in 2016. He pointed out that the projects implemented in recent years are projects that obtained building permits under the legislation prior to the law, but the development of new projects has stopped in recent years.
The liberalization of regulations opens a new door in project preparation, which is very common due to market needs. Hybrid projects are becoming complemented by photovoltaics and, above all, energy storage.
– Taking into account the multidisciplinary nature of the projects, the new planning regulations and the length of the environmental monitoring period, the transition of the entire development process to the RTB (ready for construction) stage should be estimated at 4-5 years. Only in such a time horizon can we count on a greater number of construction wind energy projects, which essentially become hybrid projects, says Christoph Nadolski.
200 thousand new jobs
New careers in the wind energy industry are already being created in Poland. The energy transition, which is based on the development of green energy sources, is an irreversible path. The world is now focusing on renewable energy, and this will revolutionize the job market. The Lewiatan Union report predicts that up to 300,000 will be created in Poland by 2030. New jobs in so-called green industries. The wind energy sector alone will create about 200,000 jobs. Jobs in the next 15 years – says Małgorzata Żmijewska-Kukiełka, Communications Director of the Polish Wind Energy Association.
This appears to be due to the dynamic development of wind energy Demand for new and specialized employees, including: technicians and wind turbine installers. It is estimated that onshore wind energy may contribute in the future to the creation of up to 97,000 new jobs depending on the development scenario. Offshore wind energy will provide another 100,000. Jobs in Poland – notes Małgorzata Żmijewska-Kukiełka.
Attractive profits
There are many different positions in the wind industry, a Earnings depend on the candidate’s experience and qualifications, and to some extent, also on the type of wind turbines being operated – onshore or offshore. In the labor market, most recruitment is aimed at technicians, service technicians and operators. – The Polish wind energy industry offers attractive salaries, development opportunities and stable employment, which leads to a growing interest in working on wind farms.
People starting their career in this sector can count on a salary starting from PLN 10,000. Total Polish Zlotywhile experienced technicians can expect earnings ranging from PLN 16,000 to PLN 22,000 gross per month. At the same time, the job market abroad is becoming more and more open to Polish technicians and service technicians, says Katarzyna Czapińska, senior consultant at Hays Poland.
He adds that some employees are required. Engineers, technologists, project managers, business analysts, consultants, architects, designers, researchers, as well as technicians, service technicians and operators.
Not only in Poland
For service technicians and technicians who have completed the necessary training and obtained a license to work with wind turbines, the job market is also opening up abroad. Today, Polish employees work in many countries and are important and sought-after experts in their field. – Companies themselves offer the opportunity to change industries for free – OX2 with the Windhunter Academy, or EDF Renewables Polska and Vulcan, which in cooperation with Spółka Restrukturyzacji Kopalń (SRK) It has recruited and trained additional miners to work as wind turbine technicians and service technicians. – says Małgorzata Żmijewska-Kukiełka.
There may be new directions of development constantly. – Investments in lines and stations are indicated as an interesting direction for retraining people who are looking for an idea for themselves in the transformed economy. The grid in Poland is one of the weakest links in the national energy system.Only modernization and expansion at the transmission and distribution levels will allow the connection of new generation sources, as well as expansion with the currently most important component, namely energy storage – says Christoph Nadolski, advisor to the board of directors for the energy sector at HRK, a personnel consulting company.
He added that contracting companies that carry out tasks in the field of line investments, especially high and higher voltage, as well as 110/400 kV stations. Constantly reporting the need for HV and UHV electricians, EAZ (Electrical Automatic Protection) technicians, line access specialists and cable connectors– People qualified in these areas will find work in Poland and abroad. People who know German can also count on particularly high earnings, because Germany is a very interesting market for companies making linear investments. The maritime sector also points to shortcomings at the “blue collar” level, not in the area of installing and servicing wind turbines, but primarily in the part related to the connection and laying of cables – the expert says.
