Google Bard's got new superpowers. The creators of ChatGPT have reason to worry

Google Bard is supported in the Polish version by the latest generation of the large language model called Gemini Pro. Let's see what he can do.

At the time of its debut last year, Bard became the subject of ridicule from Internet users, because it was difficult to resist the impression that Google – caught off guard by the ChatGPT craze – was preparing an alternative on its knees.

However, it cannot be denied that Google is not slowing down and is regularly working on improving its artificial intelligence.

Google Bard with Gemini Pro is now in Polish as well

Gemini Pro is a large language model developed by Google that was integrated into Bard in English late last year. Creators have reported that its availability has been expanded to include all supported languages. In fact, when asked about the technology used, the cool Pole replied that it runs on the Gemini Pro engine.

The new engine promises to provide Bard with “more advanced understanding, argumentation, summarization, and coding capabilities.” Google also confirms that this is the “fastest version of this service yet.”

The Polish version also includes the long-awaited response verification mechanism. After clicking the “G” icon below the answer, Bard will use the Google search engine to see if there is content on the web that confirms his answer.

In the press release, Google also boasted about Bard's integration with Imagen 2 image generation technology. The chatbot is supposed to generate graphics based on verbal descriptions in English, but at the time of writing I can't use that functionality yet. Bard himself claims that “Imagen 2 is not integrated with Bard yet.”

Well, it's time to see what the revitalized Bard can do. I gave him several instructions, including some that he couldn't handle on his debut day.

Google Bard Then and Now: Test

Prompt 1: I have a train in exactly 3 hours. I need 15 minutes to get ready and 30 minutes to get to the station. I recommend 3 highly rated thrillers from the last 5 years that I can watch before leaving the house.

cool google:

3 exciting films from the last 5 years to watch before the train:

1. “A Quiet Place” (2018)

  • Duration: 1 hour and 30 minutes

  • Movie rating on IMDb: 7.5/10

  • Description: A family must live in silence to avoid deadly creatures that hunt by sound.

2. “A Simple Service” (2018)

  • Duration: 1 hour and 45 minutes

  • Movie rating on IMDb: 6.7/10

  • Synopsis: Two mothers become embroiled in a mysterious mystery when one of them disappears without a trace.

3. “Search” (2018)

  • Duration: 1 hour and 42 minutes

  • Film rating on IMDb: 7.7/10

  • Summary: A father investigates the disappearance of his teenage daughter by looking into her laptop.

Additional options:

  • “Into the Dark” (2018) – a psychological thriller about a blind woman who witnesses a murder. (Duration: 1 hour 56 minutes)

  • “Inheritance” (2018) – Horror film about a family who discovers dark secrets after their grandmother dies. (Duration: 1 hour 32 minutes)

Be sure to factor in time for commercials or other interruptions while watching.

Useful Tips:

  • Select the video you are most interested in based on the description.

  • Check out the movie's trailer to see if you like it.

  • Watch the movie on VOD, allowing you to fast-forward if you want to save time.

I wish you a pleasant viewing and a happy trip!

Conclusions: The AI has enough data to calculate that I have 2 hours and 15 minutes left to watch the movie. Although Bard listed incorrect durations for some videos, all suggestions are within the time limit. I could have limited the release dates (I requested films from the last 5 years and some were released almost 6 years ago), but overall I'm happy with the response.

Last November, Bard completely failed this recommendation, because he suggested films longer than two hours and 15 minutes, and also provided distorted data about them, for example incorrectly naming the actors or awarding the Oscar to a film that did not win it. So I see a lot of improvement.

Prompt 2: My name is Meron and I plan to open a kebab restaurant where all the dishes will have technology-related names. Suggest the name of the place, the dishes and an idea for the logo.

cool google:

The building's name:

  • Kebab 2.0 – refers to the modern approach to kebab

  • Data KEBAB – is associated with the data center and information storage

  • Kebabyte – a play on the word “byte” (unit of information)

  • KebabKod – refers to programming and programming

  • CyberKebab – combines kebab and cyberspace

Food names:

  • Wrap'n'Code – Wrap with kebab and toppings

  • Mega Baget – A large portion of kebab

  • Main course – a dish with kebab and french fries

  • Surfer kebab – kebab on a plate with salads

  • Hasłożerny Kebab – kebab in a bun with toppings

Logo idea:

  • Kebab icon with digital background

  • Robotic character eating kebab

  • Logo with pixels arranged in the shape of a kebab

  • Colorful logo with neon elements

  • Simple logo with technology font

Additional Tips:

  • The name and logo should be easy to remember and recognizable.

  • You should check the availability of your domain name and social media profiles.

  • It is beneficial to entrust your logo design to a professional graphic designer.

Useful sites:

  • https://www.namelix.com/ – Company name generator

  • – A platform for creating logosOtto>

  • https://www.freepik.com/ – A vector graphics website

Good luck opening your place!

Conclusion: This requires AI to be creative. Of course, assessing the appeal of individual names is subjective, but Bard actually tried to generate names associated with food and technology. And some of them are quite amazing, because I will call a large kebab a “MegaByte” and a kebab on a plate a “Main Course”.

Last July, Bard – although he noted that I care about the technological names of kebab – suggested names for dishes such as “chicken burger” or “beef burger”. Permission 2.0 for the new poet.

Claim 3: List all variants and memory versions of the iPhone 15 and provide their Polish prices based on data from Apple.com.

cool google:

  • 128 GB: PLN 4,699
  • 256 GB: 5,299 PLN
  • 512 GB: 6,499 PLN

iPhone 15 Plus:

  • 128 GB: 5,299 PLN
  • 256 GB: 5,899 PLN
  • 512 GB: 7099 PLN

iPhone 15 Pro:

  • 128 GB: 5999 PLN
  • 256 GB: PLN 6,599
  • 512 GB: 7799 PLN
  • 1 TB: PLN 8,999

iPhone 15 Pro Max:

  • 256 GB: PLN 7,199
  • 512 GB: 8,399 PLN
  • 1 TB: PLN 9,599

attention:

  • Prices above are official Apple prices as of December 2, 2023 and are subject to change.
  • Availability of individual models and memory versions may vary by operator and store.

additional information:

  • You can find more information about the iPhone 15 at Apple.com, including its specifications, features and availability: Otto>
  • You can also compare different iPhone models on Apple's website: Otto>
  • I hope this information is useful.

Conclusions: Bard did the job well. All variables have been taken into account and all prices are correct.

Before Gemini Pro, I didn't get the exact same thing, but until a few months ago, Bard tended to hallucinate even when answering questions that required zero-digit answers.

Bard is still in beta, and Google clearly states that “the information Bard provides (including information about people) may contain inaccuracies, so check its answers carefully.” However, I personally see a huge improvement in its performance, so it looks like Google bot is finally becoming a viable alternative to ChatGPT.
