Hamas released a recording in which it stated that Nadau Popplewell, who was kidnapped from Kibbutz Nirim in southern Israel, died a month ago from wounds he sustained during an Israeli attack on the Gaza Strip.
Earlier on Saturday, Hamas posted an undated video showing Popplewell, 51, standing in front of a white wall with a bruise around his right eye. The man gave his name and surname.
A few hours later, Hamas announced his death. The organization said that Popplewell, who also holds British citizenship, was being held with a woman. Hamas spokesman Abu Ubaida said, “He died because he did not receive intensive medical care because the enemy is destroying hospitals in Gaza.”
According to Israeli reports, 128 of the 252 people kidnapped on October 7 remain in the Gaza Strip. An Israeli investigation committee found that at least 36 hostages had been killed
