Hubert Hurkacz underwent surgery after suffering an injury at Wimbledon. In an interview with PAP, Dr. Bartlomiej Kacperczak, who performed the operation, confirmed that the Polish tennis player is in good health. A decision on whether to go to the Olympics has not yet been made.

On July 4, Hubert Hurkacz suffered a knee injury. In the second round match at Wimbledon against Arthur, Ashe rushed onto the court to defend the ball and was injured. He returned to the match but retired a few moments later. The health status of our tennis player was unknown for a long time. On Monday (July 15 – Editor’s note) Hurkacz had to undergo arthroscopy of the knee joint.

The operation was performed by Dr. Bartlomiej Kacperczak, who works with the tennis player. He confirmed that Hurkacz is in good health. The decision to go to the Olympic Games in Paris has not yet been made. There is a race against time, and motor preparation will be crucial.

– We are focusing on full loading and dynamics. The most important thing at the moment is the motor preparation, because that is the only thing that will decide whether he will be ready for the Olympics or not. The important thing is that Hubert is healthy after the surgery. “We are not dealing with a sick player, but with a healthy player,” the doctor said.

Knee arthroscopy involves removing damage from the affected area. This will prevent the injury from recurring. The Pole has a special treatment planned that will allow him to recover quickly. Let’s remember that Novak Djokovic underwent such a procedure before Wimbledon. He participated in the tournament and reached the finals.

The Polish doctor stressed that the most important thing is that the tennis player is ready to play, not his knee. The training focuses on the athlete’s entire body, which must work at maximum speed to protect the body from injuries. The training plan starts at 7 am and ends at 8 pm. The tennis player is assisted by a chef, a nutritionist, a motor coach, a physiotherapist and an orthopedist. He also uses a hyperbaric chamber, trains in the pool and undergoes functional tests.

As Kacperczak emphasized, if after these activities there is no noticeable difference between the operated leg and the unoperated leg, the doctors will be sure that Hurkacz can participate in the Olympics without any risks. On the other hand, if he is not well prepared motor-wise, he will not be able to withstand several hours of running.

His doctor will also travel to Paris with the tennis player, who will travel there in a special bus with full diagnostic and rehabilitation facilities. The doctor believes that an early return to the court will exacerbate the health problems.

– He has to get back to his pre-injury level. “If we achieve that by the Olympics, the risk is zero, and if we don’t, I would recommend not going to Paris, but preparing for the rest of the season,” Hurkacz’s doctor added firmly.

During the Games in Paris, the Pole is scheduled to play in singles, doubles (with Jan Zielinski) and mixed doubles (with Iga Swiatek).
