“High and Low”: Denzel Washington and Spike Lee will film a new film called “Heaven and Hell” directed by Akira Kurosawa
After nearly two decades, Denzel Washington will reunite with Spike Lee. Filming on the thriller “High and Low,” a remake of Akira Kurosawa's 1963 classic “Heaven and Hell,” will begin filming in March.

Washington and Lee get back together

The hero of the original version is businessman Gondo (Toshiro Mifune). One day, the driver's son is mistakenly believed to be his descendant and is kidnapped. Gondo faces a moral dilemma: if he pays the ransom, he will face bankruptcy.

The script for the new version was written by Lee and Alan Fox.

The remake is a co-production between A24 and Apple Original Films. The first studio will handle the film's theatrical distribution, while the second will acquire the rights to show it on the AppleTV+ streaming platform.

Washington's filmography ends with last year's “Without Mercy 3: The Final Chapter.” This year, the two-time Oscar winner will appear in the “Gladiator” sequel. As for Spike Lee, his latest film is the 2020 war drama titled “Five Brothers.”
