In the first round of the California Championships with the rank of Masters 1000, eighth seed Hurkacz was awarded a so-called free fate. His opponent – who he had never faced before – eliminated Serbian Miomir Kekmanovic.
– I was glad I got +Free Fate, but sometimes the tempo of a match the opponent was in can give a slight advantage. Especially since I had never played with him before, so I didn’t know what to expect – Pole admitted.
It was not clear that Bobrin was a player who could somewhat threaten Hurkacz. The Poles dominated the field, but only the end of the second half brought some emotion.
– I am glad that I entered the match strongly, thanks to which I quickly gained an advantage. However, I am not completely satisfied with the second set. I had the opportunity to finish it faster and I have to do it – said the 24-year-old inhabitant of Wroclaw.
In the next round, the pole opponent will be better than the duo, Sebastian Korda – Francis Tiafoe. There are no unknowns here, because Hurkacz has already met with both Americans.
– Both are great tennis players who can play at a high level. I hope it’s a great game, but I know I’ll have to do a lot to win it – I summed up coach Craig Boynton’s mission.
