The Polish actor won in three sets over Leandro Redi in his first ATP tournament match in Marseille. Hubert Hurkacz reversed it and needed more than an hour to break the Swiss.
Top seed Hubert Hurkacz met on court for the first time with 21-year-old Leandro Riedi. The Swiss dream of referring to the results of his great predecessors from the Alpine country – Roger Federer or Stan Wawrinka.
Rede started the match in Marseille with an unexpected win over Arthur Renderknech and showed Horkacz his claws. Already in the first match he broke the Pole’s serve, and in the second he increased his advantage after defending the break point. The Swiss led 2-0.
Hurkacz looked calm, even though you had to chase after a false start. The first symptoms of the Poles’ discontent appeared in the fifth game, because many balls were escaping from him in unwanted directions. Hurkacz’s mediocrity caused more problems than promised to make up for the losses. The tennis players were winning their blows until the end of the set, and it ended with a score of 6: 4 for Redi. Hurkacz missed five break points in this match.

There weren’t many twists and turns in the game of hard shots from the service area and short exchanges. Leandro Reddy was just as good at throwing in as he was against Arthur Rinderknech and always had the answer to problems with the serve game. I went 2-2 with no break in the second set.
Hurkacz needed over an hour to reach the opponent’s serve. He did so in the match at 4-2 in the second set. One of the balls was won by video verification and the other by a great pass. In the end, the Pole decided the round in the battle for the advantages and the whole match ended with a score of 6: 3. The third set decided on a promotion.
The last round was the first in which Leandro Redi started from serve and tried to escape. He failed to do so, because Hurkacz broke the Swiss’s serve in the match at 2: 1, which he finished with a powerful shot. An emotional Reddy had two break points to get back into the match, but didn’t use them. Hurkacz won with another break 6:2.
Hurkacz’s next opponent will be Mikael Ymir.
