Hubert Hurkacz success! Pole won the championship final in Halle with world-ranked leader Danio Medvedev 6:1, 6:4.
This is the fifth tournament the Pole has won in his career. It’s also his first victory on the turf surface.
The match started very well for the pole. Hurkacz won his serve, then broke his opponent twice, kept his order and the scoreboard was 5:0. Medvedev then won the first match, but with Hurkacz’s pass he sealed the victory in the first set.
The second group started similarly. At first, Hurkacz broke his opponent again. Later, both tennis players won their passes and it was 5:4 for the pole. In the last match, Hurkacz held his bid and won the entire match.
The 25-year-old resident of Wroclaw has so far made it onto the lawn for the first time. Previously, he triumphed in 2019 on hard ground in Winston-Salem, and last season over “Concrete” in Delray Beach and Miami and in the lounge in Metz.
A good performance at Halle Hurkacz would put him back in 10th place in Monday’s rankings.
This was the fifth match between Hurkacz and the Russian. Pole won with him for the third time.
