Hubert Hurkacz advanced to the second round of the US Open. The top Polish player needed three sets to eliminate lower-ranked Timofey Skatov from the tournament. However, it is worth noting that the 188th ranked player in the ATP rankings set tough conditions for Hurkacz. Two of the three matches had to be decided by tie-breaks.
Both tennis players started the match by winning their serve games. The breakthrough came when the score was 3:2 in favor of Hurkacz. Then the Wroclaw player used the fourth break point and broke his opponent. He then maintained the advantage until the end of the match, which he eventually won with a score of 6:3.

The start of the second half of the match was no different from what we saw in the first set. Both the Pole and the Kazakh were effective with their serve. Once again, Hurkacz had to work hard to break his opponent. He did so at 4:4 and thus created a situation in which he helped win the set. Unfortunately for him, Scato kept his nerve, which led to him falling to seventh place in the ATP rankings.
The second set had to be decided in a tiebreak. Hurkacz fared better in this match, winning 7-4 and leading 2-0 for the entire match.
In the third part of the match, Hurkacz broke his opponent 2:2. However, the Kazakh responded in the same way during the next exchange. Later, both won their service games. This led to another tiebreak. For the second time in this match, Hurkacz’s experience played a major role. The Pole used the third match ball and secured qualification to the second round of the US Open. At this stage of the competition, his opponent will be Jordan Thompson from Australia.
