Typhoon Jimmy wreaks havoc in China
Typhoon Gaemi, the third typhoon this year, hit Putian City in eastern China’s Fujian Province on Thursday evening. Its center is currently located near the city of Wuhan in central China.
However, giant storm clusters will produce heavy rains even in the southeastern provinces of Liaoning and Jilin, more than a thousand kilometers away.Which is still suffering from floods and flooding after a series of storms hit the area days ago.
Hundreds of chemical and mining companies across Liaoning province have suspended operations and residents have been evacuated due to flood threats, Xinhua news agency reported on Saturday.Due to heavy rain, all regular trains and some high-speed trains from Dalian Station were cancelled from Saturday to Monday, CCTV reported.
As it moves inland, the element loses strength and is now classified as a tropical storm with wind speeds of up to 15 meters per second.According to forecasters, the Gaimi area is moving at a speed of 10-15 km per hour towards the northwest.
Global warming increases hurricanes
The storm has already forced the evacuation of 300,000 people in Fujian province and nearly 100,000 in Guangdong province in the south of the country. There have been no official reports of casualties or serious damage so far.
The death toll from floods and landslides caused by Typhoon Gaime, which caused devastation last week, has risen. It rose to eight in Taiwan and 34 in the Philippines.
Scientists warned Friday that global warming is making tropical storms worse. Making it less frequent but more intense.
