Katarzyna Wasek loves “silver”. After winning the title of vice world champion (in 2022 in Budapest), the Polish swimmer won, on Tuesday, the silver medal at the European Championships in the 50-meter freestyle. The gold medal went to Sarah Schweström of Sweden.
30-year-old Wasek, who sailed on lane 5 (next to Sjoestroem) in the last race in Rome, had a great start. After 15 meters, the pole was advancing. Unfortunately, halfway through the distance, the Swede took the lead, which she did not concede to the finish line.
The winner’s time is 23.91 seconds, the result of WASIK is 24.20 seconds. Dutchman Van Ron finished third (24.64 seconds).
This is the second medal for the Polish national team during Euro 2022 in Rome. Previously, Jacob Majersky won the bronze in the 100-meter butterfly in butterfly style (more here).
In contrast, for Wasek it is the third silver medal in the last appearance in the tournament events. Our four-time Olympian (Beijing 2008, London 2012, Rio de Janeiro 2016 and Tokyo 2020) won second place in the Old Continent Championship (in Budapest) two years ago.
