Iga Schwichtek, after a two-week break during which she was fine-tuning her form under new coach, Tomas Wiktorowski, is back on the field. This time, the pole joined the competition in the WTA 500 Championships in Dubai. In the first round, Rachinsky faced the Russian “six” Daria Kasatkina.
The 20-year-old Rywalka from Raszyn is ranked 21 in the WTA rankings. It was the second confrontation between the tennis players this season and the third in their professional career. They played together in January at the Australian Open. The Polish women then defeated the Russian tennis player 6:2, 6:3. In June of last year, the Russian played Iga Świątek in three sets.
Iga Światek’s first set was practically flawless. Raszynianka from the very beginning dominated the course of events at the stadium in Dubai and repeatedly staged excellent plays. Daria Kasatkina had no idea how to oppose our representative. So, 1:6 lost smoothly.
The Polish-Russian broke three times and surrendered only once to serve, although in the first match Daria Kasatkina got two break points that she did not use. The game could have been completely different. The match was played at a leisurely fast pace. The group ended after less than half an hour of play.
After a short rest, the players returned to the field, but the course of this rivalry did not change. Iga Świątek is still prevalent. Sometimes one can get the impression that there was only one tennis player involved in this match and that it was definitely not Daria Kasatkina.
Raszynianka again started by breaking her opponent in the first match, winning it to zero. She then followed the blow and increased the lead, making her play comfortably. The Russian woman tried to fight, but could not stand more than playing two matches.
In the second round, the 20-year-old Polish will face the winner of Sofia Kenin – Jelena Ostapenko.
Ega Švetik – Daria Kasatkina 6:1, 6:2
