A plane coming from Visakhapatnam crashed while landing at Mumbai airport. An airport representative told the media that the plane “went off the runway” as a result of “heavy rain.” Two pilots suffered, among other things, spinal injuries, and the passengers were said to be in stable condition.
A Learjet plane with eight people on board crashed as it was approaching to land at Mumbai airport around 5 pm on Thursday. Although everyone on board the private plane survived the accident, sources quoted by the Indian Express newspaper confirmed that the pilots and passengers were injured and were taken to hospital. For 90 minutes after the crash, planes were diverted to other airports.
A Mumbai airport spokesman said in a statement that the plane was coming from Visakhapatnam with six passengers and two pilots on board. The Asian International News Agency, citing an airport representative, reported that the plane skidded off the runway “due to heavy rain.” A number of media outlets published recordings from airport surveillance cameras online. They show the plane crashing near the runway.
The Economic Times reported on Friday that the plane’s pilot “suffered several abrasions and injuries to the chest and spine,” and the co-pilot suffered “a spinal injury.” The passengers’ condition was described as “stable.”
