Less than two weeks ago, the Intel Core i9-12900K processor was tested in the CPU-Z program. The main representative of the 12th generation, codenamed “Alder Lake”, achieved a very high single-threaded test result – 825 points. Thus, the score is significantly higher compared to 11th generation (Rocket Lake) processors as well as competing AMD Ryzen 5000 series (Vermeer) systems. Meanwhile, another Alder Lake processor – Intel Core i7-12700K – was tested in the same program. So far, it has been unofficially said that the system will have 8 powerful cores and 4 energy-saving cores. Information from CPU-Z confirms that the Core i7-12700K supports a total of 20 threads simultaneously. The performance is also more than satisfactory.

Intel Core i9-12900K – 12th generation processor tested in CPU-Z. Single thread score outperforms AMD Ryzen 9 5950X
Intel Core i7-12700K scored 800.2 points in the Single Thread Test. This result is not much worse than the highest Core i9-12900K (825 points), but at the same time it is significantly higher than processors such as Intel Core i7-11700K (645 points), Intel Core i9-11900K (682 points) and AMD Ryzen 9 5900X (648 points) or Intel Core i9-10900K (580 points). The new Core i7-12700K also scored highly in the multi-threading test. The processor finished the measurement with a score of 9423.2 points. For comparison, Intel Core i7-11700K (8/16) scored 6261 points, Core i9-11900K – 6563 points, and AMD Ryzen 9 5900X (12/24) – 9544 points. The new 12-generation chip with 12 cores and 20 threads in the CPU-Z test delivers very similar multi-threaded performance to that of the 12-core, 24-thread AMD Ryzen 9 5900X. Therefore, we hope that Intel’s new proposal will prove to be quite a competitor to the Ryzen 9 5900X, despite the smaller number of maximum supported threads.
Intel Alder Lake and Intel Thread Director – Details about the hybrid architecture of the 12th generation Core processors
The Intel Core i7-12700K processor will be equipped with 8 performance cores, clocked in Turbo Boost mode at 5.0GHz for up to one core and 4.7GHz with all eight cores loaded. In addition, the processor offers 4 additional efficient (energy-saving) cores, without Hyper-Threading support and with Turbo Boost 2.0 clocking at 3.8 GHz (for up to two cores) and 3.6 GHz (for all four cores). The base TDP of the Intel Core i7-12700K processor is 125W.
