We learned about plans to create a game adaptation of one of the most famous books of the Polish master of science fiction literature in October of last year. In April 2021, information about the postponement of the premiere to 2022 was published on industry sites, however, it seems that the work on the game is quite dynamic, because its first trailer just hit the network. We see, among other things, a few parts of the gameplay, which allows us to get an idea of what The Invincible will be in one form or another.
It looks like the game will only be loosely related to the original. It’s true that we’ll be transported – like the protagonists – to the desert, the seemingly deserted planet Regis 3, but it’s hard to connect the scenes shown in the trailer with parts of Lim’s novel. Moreover, the plot path in The Invincible will depend to some extent on the decisions made by the player. The attractive visual design deserves to stand out. The game is based on the Unreal Engine 4.
Krakow-based studio Starward Industries is working on The Invincible, which will be its first appearance. The project is headed by Marek Markusevsky, whose biography includes, among other things, the position of chief producer at CD Projekt RED. Interestingly, the game was created only in versions for PC, and Xbox Series X | S and PlayStation 5. And owners of previous-generation consoles will have to throw off the flair.
Invincible will be the first game heavily inspired by Lem’s work, but hopefully it won’t be the last. I imagine a hypothetical adaptation of several of the Polish writer’s stories. What would you say, for example, to a Dead Space-style survival horror novel “Solaris”?
