The great speed skater Erwina Ryś-Ferens has passed away – the Polish Ski Association has reported
One of the best Polish figure skaters in the history of Erwin Rio Ferenc passed away on Wednesday after a long illness, the Polish Speed Skating Association reported at the age of 67.
During her sports career, she represented the colors of Olympia Elbląg and Marymont Warszawa. Her achievements include eighty-three Polish championship titles and set fifty country records. She represented Poland four times at the Olympic Games – in 1976 in Innsbruck, in 1980 in Lake Placid, in 1984 in Sarajevo, and in 1988 in Calgary.

She won three bronze medals at the World Championships – in 1978 at Lake Placid and in 1985 at Heerenveen in an all-around, and in 1988 at Skien in all respects.

This is an irreparable loss to our discipline. Erwina Ryś-Ferens was a symbol of Poland for speed skating and made Poland famous for many years. We are in mourning. We express our sympathy to the family of our outstanding figure skating player – said the president of the Polish Federation of Speed Skating, Rafai Tatarokh, in the announcement.
