Tomorrow, the Xbox 360 and its digital store will be forgotten. Microsoft’s console will join the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, which were disconnected from the Internet a few months ago.
It has been a loud rumor for months that digital stores from previous-generation consoles will become obsolete. PlayStation has already cut the PlayStation Portable off the grid, and once tried to do the same with the PS3 and PlayStation Vita. Thankfully, a backlash from fans dissuaded Sony from these plans. Nintendo has previously done the same with the Wii and NDS, and a few months ago the Wii U and popular 3DS joined the mix.
Microsoft also revealed its merciless plans for the Xbox 360 digital store a while ago. Tomorrow, July 29, we will be deprived of the ability to buy new games through the Xbox Marketplace on this console. This means that we will be permanently deprived of access to dozens, perhaps hundreds, of games that are stuck as exclusives on the Xbox 360. Fortunately, we will still be able to download the games we already have from our library. If you haven’t done the shopping you planned to do before the shutdown yet, you literally have the last minute to do so.
