Jane Fonda begins chemotherapy treatment

(New York) American actress and activist Jane Fonda announced on Friday that she has been diagnosed with cancer, but said she is optimistic about her chances of recovery and condemned the passing inequality of access to care in the United States.

“I was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma,” a cancer of the lymphatic system, “and I started chemotherapy,” the 84-year-old Oscar-winning actress announced on her Instagram account.

“We live in one of the most important times in human history, because what we do (or don’t do) will determine the future that awaits us, and I’m not going to let cancer get in my way. I’m going to do everything in my power, and use every tool in my chest.” […] To make a difference,” she added to her 1.9 million followers.

“It is a completely curable cancer. 80% of people survive, so I feel very lucky,” he immediately put into perspective.

“I’m fortunate to have health insurance and access to great doctors and treatments. I’m blessed, and it’s sad,” the star, a leading supporter of the U.S. Democratic Party, continued, adding that “many” Americans “don’t have access to the quality of care that I get. It’s not. Fair.”
