José Sébéloué, singer and guitarist of Compagnie Creole, is no more

(Montreal) José Sébéloué, singer, musician and one of the founding members of the Compagnie Creole group, died Sunday morning at the age of 74.


This information was announced by his production team in a press release that day. “Jose died peacefully with his relatives in France this morning (Sunday)”, we read there.

Founding member of the group, especially known for his songs Makes the birds laugh, Good for morale And Masked ball He began his musical career in his native Guyana in the 1970s. At the time he was in a group called Bob Korn.

He moved to France in 1975, where he participated in the creation of Compagnie Creole. On the group’s albums, you can hear him singing, as well as playing guitar and percussion.

Mr. Sébeloué made his last career trip to Quebec last March. This group was also to occur in the province in the last days.

“Performances scheduled to be presented at Compagnie Creole Quebec earlier in the week had to be canceled because other members of the group flew to Paris and were at his bedside,” noted Productions’ Martin Leclerc in a press release.

José Sébéloué was born on September 17, 1948 in Guyana.
