It is no secret that many elderly people in Poland are dissatisfied with the size of their pensions. They often receive benefits that are so low that they do not meet even the most basic needs. What is worse is that the number of elderly people receiving minimum benefits from the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) is increasing every year. Currently, the minimum pension benefit is only PLN 1.00.
Pensions are worth literally a few cents
Based on data provided by ZUS last fall, the lowest pension, i.e. 1 zloty per month, goes to a 63-year-old woman. This is the result of her one-day work under a delegation contract during her career, which resulted in the accumulation of retirement capital worth PLN 2.98 – according to o2.pl.

The stories are diverse. For example, in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, a woman of retirement age receives a retirement benefit of 5 zlotys, being a person who ended her career immediately after reaching retirement age, after 6 years of professional work and only three months of contributions. Meanwhile, in Podlasie, a man receives a pension of 13 grozi per month after 26 days of work under a civil law contract. In Lesser Poland Voivodeship, the ZUS branch in Tarnów provides a benefit of 25 groszy – as reported on o2.pl.
Where does the problem of pensions worth a few cents come from?
Benefits of nominal value are granted to people who have reached retirement age – 60 years for women and 65 years for men, without the requirement to meet a minimum length of work – 20 years for women and 25 years for men. The applicable regulations allow you to obtain the right to receive a pension after only one day of work, which may result in a nominal pension of 2 grozi per month.

This passion seamlessly translates into her problem-solving skills, with Echo often drawing inspiration from melodies and rhythms. A voracious reader, she dives deep into literature, using stories to influence her own hardcore writing. Her spirited advocacy for alcohol isn’t about mere indulgence, but about celebrating life’s poignant moments.
