In 2008, when Bigelow took home an Oscar for The Hurt Locker, she became the first woman to win an Oscar for directing. “The Hurt Locker,” about an elite unit of sappers on a mission in Iraq, also took home Oscars in five other categories, including motion picture. Bigelow’s next work, “Zero Dark Thirty” from 2012, was also appreciated by academics, who gave him 5 nominations. The film eventually won the award for sound editing.

Bigelow is also the creator of “Strange Days” surrounding the cult, as well as, among others, “Blue Steel” with Jamie Lee Curtis as a policewoman and “The Wave”, in which Patrick Swayze plays a surfer and Keanu Reeves pretends to be him, Where he plays the role of a secret investigator.
