Limited DAF XG+ “PT999” for roads to Iran – attached to a three-unit semi-trailer

Above: The interior of the PT999 in a video demo.

Early last month, the Italian company Chiggiato SpA took delivery of the new DAF XG+ 530. It turned out to be a limited edition PT999, specially prepared for the Italian market, with just 30 examples. On the outside, it featured a special two-tone panel, four air horns, an extension to the front bumper and illuminated logos, while inside there was a 32-inch TV, a microwave oven and a set of additional storage compartments replacing the upper bed. And now the exact same truck, with its attractive appearance and aerodynamic additions, has set off on its way to… Iran.

Immediately after receiving from the merchant Gasola trucks:

Images of a limited edition DAF with a “TIR” plate next to the radiator grille, a refrigerated truck described in Arabic and very unusually placed units are currently circulating on the Internet. All this may seem surprising, but in fact it is part of the regular work of the Chiggiato. A few years ago, this carrier specialized in Iran, specifically in transporting life-saving medicines there. Transports of this type are scheduled to leave Italy regularly, every 20 days, and their main element is the aforementioned refrigerated warehouse, which contains many interesting solutions.

This unique vehicle was built in collaboration with the Italian company IFAC, which specializes in the production of refrigerated trailers. Its distinctive features include walls and doors with anti-burglary padding that prevents break-ins with hand tools. There is also an alarm system connected to a 24-hour monitoring center, as well as three Thermo King refrigeration units. The first has a semi-trailer vertical arrangement, placed behind the cabin, while the other two are suspended under the body, in a space usually occupied by pallet boxes. The idea is that if the main unit fails, two other units will take over, ensuring complete safety for the transport of medicines, even in the hot Iraqi or Turkish climate. Since the trailer in question will travel mainly through the Middle East, it was decided to describe it in the Arabic alphabet, with large inscriptions that read “Transportation between Italy and Iran and Iran and Italy.

A picture of the trailer itself:

The DAF in question is not the first tractor to be equipped with such an unusual trailer. Previously, the company had already deployed a Scania 530S V8 engine in this direction. However, judging by the announcements made in recent weeks, more sets of this type could soon appear, with other examples of the three-unit semi-trailer. Chiggiato has announced its entry into more destinations in the Middle East, where it wants to deliver medicines to Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Oman and others. The company saw great potential in this, as classic sea transport is currently expensive, time-consuming and often unstable.

As an interesting fact, I would like to add that this is another airline that sends the new DAF XG/XG+ to the Middle East. I have already written twice about such projects implemented by the Milton Group company near Wroclaw: DAF XG on Polish panels on the way to Kuwait – 9 days and a tour of the Persian Gulf, and the route from Poland to the capital of Saudi Arabia – 2 groups and 2 weeks.
