Little mermaid with changing songs. Disney reworked the song’s lyrics. The studio does not want to offend anyone.

New song lyrics in the live-action Little Mermaid

We’re talking about the remixes of Kiss the Girl and Poor Unfortunate Souls. The creators wanted Prince Eric not to force himself in any way on Ariel, who might not accept his advances. Especially since the song happens when the girl has already cast her vote.

In “Kiss the Girl”, some changes were made to the script because people had become very sensitive to the idea of it [książę Eryk] imposes itself in any way [Ariel].

In turn, in the song “Poor Unfortunate Souls” one line is corrected, in which Ursula says:

Guys there don’t like gossip. Gossip actually bores them enough. Women are expected to keep their throats clear. It is better to remain silent than to smoke something pointless.

Menken explained that the script would have to undergo some revisions due to young girls who may feel they should not speak, even if it is clear that Ursula is manipulating Ariel into giving her her voice. Thus, the new line of the song will be more readable and clear in the message to the viewers.

The film is directed by Rob Marshall, author of Chicago, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Secrets of the Forest and Mary Poppins Returns. Cast includes: Halle Bailey, Jonah Hauer King, Melissa McCarthy, Javier Bardem, Art Malik, Noma Domezuene, Lorena Andrea, Simone Ashley, Kajsa Muhammad, Natalie Sorrell, Carolina Conchet, Sienna King, David Diggs, Jacob Tremblay, Awkwafina, and .
