Madame Web with awesome results from its premiere weekend. A stunning financial failure for Sony's new film. Empty rooms.

Last weekend, if someone was looking for peace and quiet and wanted to take a break from others, they could go to the cinema at Madame Web. The film debuted in America in more than 4,000 theaters, earning $15.1 million in its opening weekend, ranking only second at the box office. Financial projections prior to the premiere gave the superhero production between $25 and $35 million.

Madame Web – Disastrous financial results from the first weekend

And Madame Web managed to reach this minimum, taking into account the five-day premiere. The film was released in some countries, including Poland, on Valentine's Day, which falls on Wednesday. In America, the five-day premiere grossed $25.8 million This is a very disappointing result, even considering that Madame Web was relatively cheap for a superhero film and cost “only” $80 million.

Madame Web's performance is disastrous compared to other high-profile flops in recent years. Last year's Marvels movie managed to collect $46.1 million from theaters in its first three days, while Morbius earned $39.1 million in its three-day premiere.. Madame Web scored worse than Morbius by 61%.

Madame Web has no chance to improve her results in the following weekends. The film received a disastrous score from viewers – its CinemaScore rating is a paltry “C+”. In addition, on Rotten Tomatoes, the average review rating is 13%, which is lower than in the case of Morbius (15% positive reviews).

The Sony production also failed to sell in other markets, earning $25.7 million since its premiere on Wednesday. The film was released in 61 countries, doing best in Mexico ($2.9 million), Great Britain ($2.9 million), and France ($1.6 million).

What movie beat superhero production? It turns out that American viewers preferred to watch Bob Marley: One Love, which grossed $27.7 million in its opening weekend. The film grossed $51 million from theaters in its first six days. The production budget was $70 million.
