Polish volleyball players will compete on Saturday in the Grand Final for the gold medal of the Olympic Games in Paris. The path of the Whites and Reds to this great moment was not the easiest. Suffice it to mention the semifinal match against the Americans, in which Nikola Grbic’s players showed a brilliant character.
Our team had to face not only the opponent, but also health problems. After a serious collision in the third set, Pawel Zatorski’s performance was in doubt. The libero remained on the court, and midfielder Marcin Janusz was less fortunate, as he suffered a renewed back injury at the beginning of the fourth set. His place was taken by Grzegorz Łomacz, who played an excellent competition and made a significant contribution to the qualification to the final.
Unexpectedly, Grzegorz Krychowiak is also credited with his achievements. The long-time national football representative was present in the stands. In a later conversation with Polsat Sport, he said that perhaps it was his presence that brought joy to our volleyball players.

“I don’t want to take anything away from them, but I was there, we won, so now I don’t want to take the risk and say I won’t be there and we’ll lose because of me alone. So I’m going to try to be in the final. I hope they win the gold medal and that’s what I hope for them, that they remember this moment for the rest of their lives,” he said.
His words caused quite a stir. In the comments under the video containing this statement, volleyball fans did not spare any effort in criticizing the player. One user commented: “Is one of the Polish national football team players a mascot for our national good? Our children? Maybe this is some kind of irony.”
Another added: “Stop with these spells.. It’s their hard work and dedication that got them to this place.” And this is just the beginning of the “kindness” towards Krychowiak. Another Internet user stressed: “It’s a pity. Do you have to involve footballers in everything? Allow yourself to enjoy real success, the salt of the sport.”
There was also a reference to the history of Polish footballers’ performances in recent tournament events, where successes go unnoticed. “Why is he even participating when he has never won anything like this in his career?” he asked. – Referenced in the next entry.
