Mozambique.  The Russian ambassador was found dead in his residence

Alexander Surikov, the Russian ambassador to Mozambique, was found dead at his residence. The police received information from Russian Consul Yuri Doroshenko not to take any action regarding conducting an autopsy.

The Russian ambassador to Mozambique, Alexander Surikov, was found dead at his residence in Maputo, police said, citing local newspapers on Sunday.

The Mozambican newspaper O Pais reported that Surikov (68 years old) died on Saturday evening “in circumstances that have not yet been clarified.” The diplomat has been on duty in this country since 2017.

The police command in Maputo announced that it learned of the ambassador’s death late “after the body was transferred to the main municipal hospital” in the capital. The statement said that when officers learned of the diplomat’s “sudden death,” they went to a medical facility, but “the body had already been placed in the hospital morgue.”

Police officers who arrived at the hospital received information from Russian Consul Yuri Doroshenko not to take any action regarding the autopsy. – The police only took pictures of the body of the deceased in the morgue (…), as well as pictures inside the residence – it was confirmed. According to the Russian authorities, the sudden death of the ambassador may have been the result of a stroke.
